United Township High School Bands
The United Township High School Band program serves an enrollment of 175 students in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, extra-curricular Marching Band, and various chamber music ensembles. Concert and Symphonic Band members rehearse daily for 50 minutes, Symphonic Band members attend weekly 7:00AM sectionals. Symphonic Band members typically perform four concerts and two festivals each year. In addition, approximately 75% of the students study privately and are involved in small ensembles. Over the past 10 years, an average of 30 members has been named All-District musicians, and eight students named All-State musicians.
Under Mr. Maccabee's direction, the UTHS Symphonic Band has achieved a reputation as one of the finest high school bands in the United States. They have performed on numerous occasions for
important conventions and festivals throughout the USA, including the Illinois Music Educator's Association All-State Convention, the prestigious Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, the University of Illinois Super-State Band Festival, as well as the Western Illinois University Band Showcase. In 1998, the UTHS Symphonic Band performed at the annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. Two years ago, the band was a featured performer at Chicago's prestigious Orchestra Hall.
In addition, the United Township High School Marching Band has had a most successful history. Over the past 15 years, the band has earned more than 20 grand championships throughout the Mid-Western United States, including 5 championships at the State of Illinois Invitational Marching Band Championships.
